Advocate

Dear Student,

When students are confronted by legal or disciplinary issues, or need guidance when filing a complaint or navigating the student conduct process, the Student Government provides free advisory services, coordinated by the Student Advocate.

For students involved in legal issues, stemming from an incident either on or off campus, the consultation of a professional attorney is provided at no cost. Examples of student legal issues include alcohol, drug, motor vehicle, and public nuisance violations, as well as contract review prior to signing off-campus lease agreements. Please note that the attorney that is contracted by the Student Government will provide a one-time consultation to a student at no cost, but does not represent the student in legal proceedings, nor serves an advisor through the student conduct process unless retained by him or her with personal funds.

This year, advisory services have expanded to include issues ranging from student conduct code to academic integrity and residence living violations, as well as other on-campus issues. The Student Advocate advises students on how the various processes work and reviews what, if any, options are available to them.

If you would like additional information about our services or need to request assistance, don’t hesitate to contact me. Although complete confidentiality cannot be guaranteed, the Office of the Student Advocate strives to treat all students with equal care, respect, and dignity and will to the best of their ability, preserve the privacy of all students involved.

Sincerely,

Charles J. Gutch
Student Advocate
